Case study

Kennet Gate Distribution Centre

Kennet Gate is a new 18,000 m² distribution and light manufacturing facility on the M4 corridor. The tenant planned to install very narrow aisle racking and automated guided vehicles, so the floor had to meet tight flatness and levelness tolerances from day one.

We established a survey control network across the site at the start of construction and provided setting out for the steel frame, holding-down bolts and dock levellers. Every gridline and column base was checked independently before it was handed over to the steel erector.

Once the slab was poured, we carried out a surface regularity survey of the free movement areas and a defined movement survey along every VNA aisle, reporting against Concrete Society TR34. Colour-coded error maps and a grinding plan showed exactly where corrective work was needed, and a re-survey confirmed compliance.

Finally, we produced as-built drawings of the building, yard and external drainage for the handover pack. Because everything was measured from the same control network, the as-built record lines up exactly with the original setting out data, which gives the tenant a reliable base for future fit-out.
