Terrestrial laser scanning captures millions of precise 3D measurements in minutes, creating a complete digital record of a building, site or structure. MatMap uses 3D laser scanning to supplement or replace conventional survey methods wherever speed, completeness and safety matter. That includes complex façades, congested plant rooms, live industrial facilities and historic buildings.
Benefits of laser scanning
- Complete data in one visit: capture everything once and extract what you need later, with no return trips
- Safe, non-contact measurement: survey hazardous, high-level or inaccessible areas without working at height
- Minimal disruption: fast capture keeps downtime low in live buildings, factories and retail spaces
- Accurate 3D context: a measurable digital twin your whole design team can share
How it works
We set up the scanner at multiple positions around and inside the subject. Every scan is registered into a single point cloud and tied to a survey control network, so the data is coordinated to OS grid or your project grid. We check the registration against independent control to confirm the accuracy before any modelling or drafting begins.
Laser scanning deliverables
- Registered point clouds (E57, RCP/RCS, LAS)
- Measured building surveys: floor plans, sections and elevations in CAD
- 3D models and BIM-ready data for Revit and other platforms
- Clash detection and design verification against your model
- Deformation and flatness analysis
- Web-based point cloud viewers for easy sharing
Applications
Laser scanning supports refurbishment and fit-out design, as-built verification, volumetric calculations, plant and process upgrades, and the recording of heritage buildings. We work for clients across estates and property, manufacturing, retail and leisure and construction.
